Former Punjab minister of Pakistan People’s Party Ashraf Sohna and former minister of state for Information and Broadcasting, Syed Samsan Ali Bukhari are likely to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a source close to the former ministers told Pakistan Today on Tuesday.
Ashraf Sohna hails from the Okara district of Punjab and is currently working in the party as district president. Provincial President Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo had replaced the district cabinet of the party about a year ago. Despite continuous complaints by Ashraf Sohna against the abrupt removal of the district organisation by Manzoor Wattoo, the party’s Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has taken no action, the source further added.
“Both disgruntled leaders of the party have grievances against Wattoo over his removal of old and loyal workers of the party,” said the source, adding that PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi has met with Ashraf Sohna and invited him and Bukhari to join his party; however, they have neither accepted nor declined the offer. The decision on whether to join PTI or not will be taken once Bukhari returns from Saudi Arabia.
While talking to Pakistan Today, Ashraf Sohna said, “We are trying to move things in the right direction in the party. It is not yet decided whether anyone should quit PPP, but the exclusion of party workers will not be tolerated.”
