While the Daska city wore a deserted look due to shutter down strike by traders, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Tuesday has strongly condemned the killing of two lawyers in a lawyer-police clash in Daska and ransacking and burning of police station and public property in the aftermath of the incident in different cities. He was addressing a high level meeting at the Civil Secretariat through video link on Tuesday.
He said that the Punjab government equally shares the grief of the bereaved families of deceased lawyers. He said that the station house officer (SHO) responsible for firing has immediately been arrested and a case has been registered. He said that instructions have been issued to submit the challan of the case in the court as per law at the earliest. He said that all demands of justice will be fulfilled in this incident.
The chief minister further said taking law into hand and damaging public and private properties cannot be justified.
“The elements who are involved in damaging national property are not doing any service to the country,” he said, adding that maintenance of law and order and protection of life and property is the responsibility of the state which will be fulfilled at all cost.
The chief minister also appreciated the performance of cabinet committee for law and order. During the meeting, a report was also presented to the chief minister about the situation created due to Daska killings.
FUNERAL PRAYERS OFFERED, SHUTTER DOWN STRIKE OBSERVED:
Meanwhile, a large number of people from different walks of life Tuesday offered funeral prayers of the deceased lawyers in Daska on Monday.
The funeral prayers were also attended by former Punjab Governor and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Chaudhry Sarwar.
The city gave a deserted look as traders and businessmen observed a shutter down strike and schools, government offices, business centres, markets and shops were closed while traffic was off the roads.
Rangers were kept on alert at Nawaz Sharif Stadium to deal with any untoward incident. Additional police from neighbouring districts was also summoned and deployed at police stations across the city.
