CM orders enquiry into Daska killings

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the tragic incident in Daska and expressed sorrow and grief over the death of Daska Bar Association president and a lawyer.

He was meeting a delegation of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan led by its President Fazal Haq Abbasi on Monday.

Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said that he has taken immediate notice and ordered an impartial enquiry into the matter while the station house officer (SHO) responsible has been arrested. He said direct firing at lawyers cannot be justified and the elements involved will not be able to escape punishment as per the law and all demands of justice will be fulfilled.

“The lawyers’ community is playing key role in the provision of prompt and inexpensive justice to the citizens and has rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the restoration of independent judiciary and strengthening of democracy in the country,” he said.

He said that there is a need to improve police stations and kutchery culture as it is directly linked with the masses.

The chief minister further said that the government has taken solid measures for good governance and transparent utilisation of resources in the province. He said that power and accountability are linked together. He said that lawyers community has to play an active role for provision of prompt justice to the citizens by maintaining a balance between bar and bench.

He announced a grant of fifty million rupees for the bar association. He directed the secretary Health to evolve a system in consultation with lawyers for the provision of medical facilities to the lawyers’ community in hospitals.

Association’s President Fazal Haq Abbasi and other office-bearers lauded the chief minister’s commitment and dedication for the welfare of the people of the province. He said that the rulers of other provinces should also work like Shahbaz Sharif for the development and prosperity of Pakistan.
