Three arrested for extorting Rs 10m from minister’s brother

The police arrested three suspects over charges of extortion, after they were on Saturday found asking the brother of Punjab’s Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, for money.

The suspects reportedly belong to the Lyari area of Karachi.

According to police sources, three suspects demanded Rs 10 million from Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman’s elder brother Asadur Rehman and threatened him that they would kidnap him and his family members if he failed to provide them the money.

Upon receiving the information, SP CIA Umar Virk constituted a team that traced the calls, raided a place in the Defence area of Lahore, and arrested the suspects along with their weapons.

Police sources said that the suspects belonged to Lyari area of Karachi and had come to Lahore to receive the extortion money.
