A petition was filed in Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Saturday seeking annulment of Dir by-election results.

According to reports, the petition, jointly filed by 12 women, has claimed that political parties had joined hands to bar women from voting in Dir by-election. Stopping women from voting was violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan, it contended.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and poll candidates have been made respondents in the petition.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI)’s Izazul Mulk had won the seat, defeating Awami National Party’s Bahadur Khan. The seat was vacated by JI chief Sirajul Haq after his elevation to Senate.
