The city police have failed in resolving the murder cases of three Preedy Police Station SHOs including the one of Aijaz Khawaja, belonging to the same police station, who was killed lastly, Pakistan Today has learnt on Saturday.
On April 16, Preedy police station’ SHO Aijaz Ali Khawaja was gunned down by the bike riders in the jurisdiction of Defence Police Station. SHO Aijaz Ali Khawaja was attacked soon after he left his home in Defence Phase-II Extension in a private car. The officer was on his way to his office in Saddar when gunmen on a motorcycle attacked his vehicle near the traffic intersection called Defence Mor.
Earlier, two SHOs of Preedy police station Ghazanfar Kazmi and Agha Asadullah were killed in 2013 and 2014. Inspector Agha Asadullah was travelling in his private car on Dr Daudpta Road when a bullet hit him in the head. He was also posted as the SHO at Preedy police station. Ghazanfar Kazmi, also an SHO of Preedy police station, was shot dead in 2014. He was attacked near AnklesariaHospital when he was going in his private car to his residence in Garden police headquarters.
Although, the police got CCTV footage of the incident, but, the police have failed to identify the attackers. The only reason behind this failure was that the two megapixel device, which was installed on the hit point, would not identify the attackers because of height and low resolution.
When the police failed to identify the gunmen, it had decided geo fencing of the incident. The police had requested the cellular companies to share the details of calls made before and during the attack. The police had received the details required and started further investigation.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Defence police station Investigation Officer (IO) Rana Lateef said the police got the CCTV footage of the incident, but, they could not identify the faces of the attackers because of the low resolution of the footage available. “The footage helped us to know the way SHO Aijaz Khawaja was killed, but, we cannot prepare sketches of the attackers involved,” he added.
“We have decided to conduct geo-fencing of the area concerned when we reached nowhere with the help of available evidences,” the IO said, adding: “We are calling the suspects and investigating them, but, we cannot draw a conclusion so far.”
“The footage of different incidents recorded by the cameras installed in the city for monitoring purposes only helped the investigators to understand the way a crime was committed,” Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), previously known as Crime Investigation Department (CID), official Raja Umar Khattab said.
“Whenever, the footage or pictures from the CCTV cameras were sent to National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) for identification of suspects, NADRA turned down our request on technical grounds,” Khattab added.
