Militant killed, female worker, cop injured in attack on polio team in Mardan

A militant was killed in crossfire with the police after he attacked a polio vaccination team in Mardan on Tuesday. The attack also left a female polio worker and a police officer injured.

Per details, the polio team was administering polio drops in Tambulak when a man fired shots at it, injuring a policeman deputed for vaccinators’ security. Another police constable accompanying the team resorted to retaliatory fire and managed to bring the attacker down.

Mardan DPO confirmed that the attacker, identified as Jehanzeb, was killed while Constable Habibullah sustained injuries during the incident. The wounded cop was shifted to DHQ Hospital for treatment.

A three-day anti-polio drive under the ‘Sehat Ka Ittehad’ programme began in 11 designated districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Monday.
