Crash course culture

Through your newspaper, I want to draw attention to the new crash course culture that is settling in with the young generation. The true essence of learning is lost and our educational system is to blame. The criterion set to measure intellect is based on the grades required, not the knowledge. The students are taking ‘shortcuts’ to score higher, and are least bothered with if they actually learn. And why not? The current situation has conditioned them this way. It’s all about grades nowadays; who cares about what you have actually learned?

I fail to understand how a tuition centre can guarantee to supply the same knowledge in the course of just two weeks that a school would take a year for. We need to open our eyes. Is this what we want for our children? Our educational system needs to take serious action against the crash course and tuition centre culture that is developing and invest in taking off the pressure of getting high grades so the youth can enjoy the process of learning and acquiring knowledge and become truly literate.
