Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday called Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq and requested his support for the upcoming by-election in Multan, a private TV channel reported.
“You are our coalition partner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Qureshi reminded Haq.
According to sources, Haq has assured JI’s support for the PTI candidate in the by-election.
The two leaders also directed Dr Wasim Akhtar and Ejaz Janjua to meet and discuss the issue.
On Friday, local JI leaders announced their support for PML-N’s candidate, drawing an angry response from PTI’s leaders and followers on social media.
In a message on Twitter, PTI Information Secretary Shireen Mazari termed JI an unreliable ally for PTI.
“Shocking, JI has announced support for PML-N candidate in Multan when PTI not only supported JI chief for Senate but withdrew candidate for JI in Lower Dir,” she posted.
