The demand of a capable and energetic ‘full time’ home minister for Sindh province to effectively deal with the law and order issue echoed in Sindh Assembly on Friday.
Speaking on the joint resolution, Muhammad Shaharyar Khan Mahar of the PML-F said when the PPP had a lot of young and energetic ministers like Jam Khan Shoro, Taimur Talpur and Nasir Hussain Shah, they why it was not appointing a full-time minister to take a proper care of its crucial home department?
Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi of the same party also said that Sindh needed a powerful home minister to run the department properly and improve law and order situation in the province.
Sorath Thebo of the PML-N said perhaps Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had not confidence of the MPA of his party to select one of them for the home department. She remarked that perhaps the chief minister was fearful of appointing a full time home minister who might turn into another Zulfiqar Mirza.
Nawab Taimur Talpur of the PPPP said a full-time home minister should be appointed to take care of these issues. Police and Rangers were performing their duties in an excellent manner, he commented.
However, the government side defended holding of home department portfolio by Syed Qaim Ali Shah. They argued that he was a very senior parliamentarian and effective head of the province. They said he was running the home department in an effective matter and positive results had already been obtained under his leadership.
