Senate session updates- NAB recoveries, child abuse and more

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs 3726.821 million out of Rs 16070.85 million on account of a plea bargain during the last four years.

In a written reply the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights said that during the same period around 240 persons have been entered in to a Plea Bargain in 109 cases.

The law ministry informed the Senate that draft Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill for ICT has been drafted by National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and forwarded to the Ministry to introduce in  the  National Assembly.

The draft domestic violence bill has been shared with the stakeholders for their comments and will be finalised and introduced in the National Assembly shortly.

A Criminal Law Amendment Bill has been drafted which covers all aspects of child protection and violence. The Bill has been referred to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights for its review.

A project  titled  “preventing  violence  against  children in  Pakistan” is  being implemented  with  the  support  of  SAARC Development  Fund.

The Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has launched Child Domestic Labor Project to contribute to the progressive elimination of child labour in domestic service in the country and to protect children working as domestic servants though the Basic Education Enabling Programme (DEEP).

A National Campaign against Corporal Punishment has been launched with support of UNICF during, 2014.

The Commission on the Status of the Women is mandated to oversee cases of violence and abuse of small girls in the country and take appropriate actions.

The Wafaqi Mohtasib has appointed Child Commissioner at the Federal level and Provincial Ombudsmen had appointed Child Commissioner to monitor and address such grievances.

On the direction of the Prime Minister a National Action Plan has been prepared to improve the situation of Human Rights including child rights.

The Ministry of Law, justice and Human Rights is in process in setting up Human Rights Management  Information  System  (HRMIS) to streamline the disaggregated data/information on cases  of human rights violation  including  domestic  violence against children.
