Former Hyderabad Jail superintendent Aijaz Haider had reportedly refused to facilitate terror suspects in Sukkur Jail

 

Former jail superintendent of Hyderabad police Aijaz Haider was killed Friday when gunmen opened fire on his car near Karachi’s Pehlwan Goth area.

According to the Senior Superintendent of Police East, unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle near Pehlwan Goth jurisdiction of PS Shahrah-i-Faisal. Subsequently, he was killed whereas his wife sustained injuries in the attack and shifted to nearby hospital Darus Sehat.

Meanwhile, a preliminary probe into the killing has revealed that Haider was ostensibly gunned down for refusing to facilitate terror suspects in jails under his supervision.

Sources told Pakistan Today that Haider had received threats to his life by a banned outfit when he was serving as superintendent of the Sukkur Jail. He was subsequently transferred to Hyderabad Jail but was removed from that position hardly after a month over unknown reasons.

“Haider received death threats when he refused to facilitate terror suspects in Sukkur Jail,” Sindh Prisons Inspector General (IG) Nusrat Mangan confirmed to Pakistan Today.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz strongly condemned the murder of the police official and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.

He said the ongoing operation in Karachi against militants and criminals would continue with full force till their complete elimination. He said the perpetrators of this heinous crime should be arrested at the earliest and brought to justice.
