Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique, said on Wednesday that the Punjab government is committed to providing basic health services to deprived communities at their doorstep.
He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the health camps initiative in Punjab in Khan Colony, Gulberg Town’s Union Council 99.
Director General Health Services Punjab Dr. Zahid Pervaiz and senior officials of the health department were also present at the formal inauguration of the camp.
The health camps have been set up by the provincial health department in selected Union Councils of four districts: Lahore, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur with support from partners. Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the idea is to serve the deprived communities in areas lacking basic health services. The initiative, he said, will help enhance access to maternal/child health care services. He said the camps are providing medicines for common ailment along with antenatal care and EPI services. He further said that camps are an interim solution for the provision of basic health services in areas identified to be most in need.
Director General Health Services Punjab Dr. Zahid Pervaiz said that the initiative was aimed at providing maternal, neonatal and child health care. We have arranged Medical Officers, LHVs and Vaccinators at the camps. Drugs for ARI, Diarrhoea, malaria, general eye problems, skin diseases, and other common diseases are being given free of cost. Pregnant women will be encouraged to visit health camps for antenatal check-ups, registration and issuance of ID card. Routine EPI services including OPV and safe delivery kits for pregnant mothers are also being provided at health camps,” he further said.
The camps are being set up in the province phase-wise and after Rawalpindi, they will be set up in selected union councils of DG Khan and Rajanpur.
I guess that Transport service at the poor’s doorstep is govt’s aim (though most of the people in Lahore have their private vehicles now). The conditions of hospitals even in a city like Lahore is miserable.Mayo Hospital is one such example.
