  • Critics lambast PM Sharif, political leaders for continuing with lunch following news of Ismailis’ massacre in Karachi

Following an attack on Ismailis in Karachi, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was taken to task on social media for “giving importance to his luncheon” while the country mourned the innocent lives lost in the brutal terrorist attack.

The PM hosted a luncheon for political leaders to settle an internal dispute over China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Islamabad, however several TV channels splashed his statement numerous times wherein he stated, “Let’s have lunch first”.

Moin Balkhi (@moinbalkhi) tweeted, “@omar_quraishi Lunch was very important for him, he has a good appetite.”

Sheema Khan (@sheema_kh) grilled the PM, stating, “People attending the meeting filling their plates slowly and having lunch. Fittay mou! #Shame #Ismaili #BusAttack.”

Some political parties had expressed apprehensions and concerns over alleged change in route of economic corridor, hence PM called the all parties conference. However, his decision to continue with the programme drew wrath of general public who vented their anger on the social media.

Some reports suggested that Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who was present in the meeting, urged the PM to cut short the gathering and fly to Karachi on this critical juncture.
