Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has directed the deputy commissioners (DCs) representing different districts to prepare a fresh schedule for water availability in the metropolis.

Chairing a meeting of water supply monitoring committee attended by all concerned officials, he said top priority should be accorded to areas worst hit due to present water scarcity in the city.

He said the government was doing its best to address the situation and the DCs along with Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) engineers needed to streamline these efforts, turning them most efficient.

Responding to reports submitted to him by the DCs regarding water supply situation in their respective areas of jurisdiction, Shoaib said he areas with severe shortage of water must be supplied with the essential commodity through tankers on regular basis.

“Our priority is to mitigate the grievances of the masses and help them by providing with needed relief without any interruption,” he said. The commissioner said proper management could help equitable distribution of water to all parts of the metropolis. He also urged the KWSB officials to ensure early repair of faulty pumps and to see that their complaint cells must remain operational round the clock.
