During his visit to Kabul on Tuesday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said that territories of Pakistan and Afghanistan will be not be allowed to be used against each other, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Asim Bajwa said in a series of tweets.

The COAS extended full support for Afghan-led peace efforts and added that Pak-Afghan relations will strictly adhere to a policy of non-interference. He said that Afghanistan’s enemy will be treated as Pakistan’s enemy and vice versa.

“Our relations will be guided by three principles of strict adherence to policy of non interference. Full support for Afghan-owned, Afghan led peace, and reconciliation and making all efforts in this regard,” the tweets added.

The army chief also directed the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to commence construction of the Torkham-Jalalabad carriageway. Construction of this project will commence within a week, the ISPR DG tweeted.

Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Riwzan Akhtar visited Kabul last week to do the groundwork for the trip by the prime minister and army chief. The improvements in bilateral relations after the change of government in Kabul were centred on enhanced counter-terrorism cooperation.
