The permanent head position for the Private Education Regulatory Authority (PERA) formed in 2013 to standardise private education has remained vacant for quite some time and the government seems least interested in filling up the post.

The authority was formed to inspect the receiving of fees, facility to provide free course books, train teachers, tackle security issues, and ensure payment of salaries to teachers, along with handle other problems being faced by institutions.
According to sources, around six heads have been changed since PERA’s formation. Umer Hamid was the previous head, and he has been removed from the post, so the seat is currently vacant.
PERA member academic Imtiaz Qureshi is the leading candidate for the post.
CADD Ministry additional joint secretary said that ex-chief Umer Hamid has been posted to the Prime Minister House, due to which the post is vacant at present. He further said that head of PERA would be appointed soon.
