Relatives of terrorists could be prosecuted

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed close relatives of alleged terrorists to inform the concerned law enforcing authorities about missing/disappeared members and their activities otherwise they will face the consequences under the existing criminal and terrorist laws.

The government made this warning through an advertisement, published in the print media. Known lawyer and expert of political and tribal affairs Latif Afridi has endorsed the notice whereas human rights activist Zar Ali Khan Musazai has termed it an act to curb basic human and political rights.

The government issued the notice to general public under Criminal Procedure Code ( Cr.P.C) Section 1898, warning the concerned parents, relatives/wards of terrorists that they will be trailed for terrorist acts, sin and criminal acts committed by their relatives if they failed in informing the nearby police station in settled districts and Assistant Political Agents in tribal regions. In this respect, the government directed parents, close relatives and wards to inform about missing sons and others who either have links with terrorists groups or were involved in terrorist acts in their individual capacity. It asked to early inform the concerned quarters of law enforcing agencies about any one of home, family and community, missing/disappearing for such motives.

Through this notice, the government declares that if any such disappeared/missing person is killed in encounter or arrested, then his close relatives, including the parents, brothers and other close relatives. All these people will be detained and trailed under clauses and sections of the law. Under these sections of the Cr P.C, the guilty persons could face capital punishment or life imprisonment along with attachment of moveable and immovable properties.
