Rafique Rajwana sworn in as Punjab governor

Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana took oath of Punjab governor in a simple but impressive ceremony at the Punjab Governor’s House on Sunday evening. Lahore High Court Chief Justice Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik administered the oath.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, some federal and provincial ministers, elected public representatives, civil and military officials and notables from different walks of life attended the ceremony.

Rajwana was appointed as Punjab governor by President Mamnoon Hussain earlier this week.

After the ceremony, Rajwana said that he would make utmost effort to serve the people of his province. He also assured Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that he would meet the expectations of the higher leadership of the country.

After obtaining a law degree from PunjabUniversity, Rajwana began his career as a judicial officer. He also served as an additional district and sessions judge. He was appointed the president of Lahore High Court Bar Association’s (LHCBA) Multan bench in 1996.

Rajwana was then appointed as a senator on the seat vacated by former president Rafiq Tarar in 1998. He was appointed a senator on a PML-N general seat for the second time in 2012.

The position of Punjab governor became vacant after Chaudhry Sarwar resigned from the post on January 29 after blaming the PML-N government of bad governance.

Hailing from southern Punjab, Rajwana has been active in the politics of the region. He has also been closely associated with PML-N throughout his political career.
