Sugarcane growers of village Hussain Bux Jatoi near Thoof Chausool burnt their standing sugarcane crop against, what they termed, highhandedness of the sugar mill owners and Sindh government for not paying them the actual price of the commodity announced by the government.

The crop sown over 12 acres of land was destroyed by disgusted peasants. Growers including Muhammad Bux, Saqib Jatoi, Irfan Jatoi and others also held protest demonstration against mill owners and Sindh government for not giving the growers government approved procurement rate.

Talking to media, they alleged that the government was committing economic murder of the peasants. They said Chief Minister Qaim Shah, agriculture minister and PPP leaders was merely issuing statements but doing nothing for the growers of Sindh. They said they burnt crop because the sugar mill owner was giving them Rs 155/40 kg instead of government fixed rate of Rs 182/40kg.

They warned that if growers were not paid proper prices of their produce then they will stop sowing sugarcane, wheat and paddy crops from next year and switch to other crops.
