National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday directed the Sindh home secretary and Inspector General of Police Ghulam Haider Jamali to provide adequate security to former NA speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and her family.

Sadiq issued the directives in response to a letter written to him by the former NA speaker.

In a letter to the home secretary and IGP, the NA speaker instructed them to make proper arrangements for the security of Fehmida and her family. The speaker also said that they should submit a report in this regard.

He further said, “As the custodian of the House, it is my responsibility to make necessary arrangements for the security of all members whether he or she belongs to a political party or not.”

In a letter addressed to Sadiq, Dr Fehmida had said that she and her family were concerned for their security and being the custodian of the House, it is the speaker’s responsibility to ensure the security of all members of the National Assembly.
