The Sindh High Court on Friday issued a notice to former home minister Zulifqar Mirza and the authorities to file comments on an application of Faryal Talpur seeking to join proceedings in the petition filed by Zulifqar Mirza.
A division bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, was seized with an application filed by Talpur for becoming a party to the proceedings in Mirza’s petition. Mirza had filed a petition against withdrawal of police constables posted for the security of his and his wife Dr Fehmida Mirz, National Assembly’s ex-speaker.
The counsel, who represented MS Faryal, submitted that Mirza unnecessarily took Faryal to the task over her security as she was given such security following the court order. He said Faryal had approached the court for her security after the crises management cell had addressed letters to interior ministry, home ministries of all provinces and law enforcement agencies regarding looming threat to her life. Hence, he added that Mirza had no right to object to the security given to Ms Faryal.
Earlier, Mirza submitted in the petition that he would be killed if he was not provided security as Asif Ali Zardari and Altaf Hussain were his biggest enemies.
Mirza said Ms Talpur was given a police escort comprising 250 police personnel whereas former home minister Waseem Akhtar and other MQM leaders were also given security. Therefore, he pleaded to the court to order the authorities to provide him and his family adequate security.
The court had sought from the authorities the details of police escort provided to ex-ministers, including Faryal Talpur, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s sister, and their entitlement to security as per law.
