  • Authority says no duplicate serial number counterfoil in NA-122 report

The spokesperson of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Thursday said that it was “absolutely incorrect” to assert that duplicate serial number counterfoils were identified by the pre-scanned report in 30 polling stations of NA-122 constituency.

Responding to various misperceptions created by a political party quoting the pre-scanned report of NADRA, the spokesperson said that the report does not mention even single instance of any duplicate serial number counterfoil.

Responding to another conclusion drawn by a segment of media that ballot paper books were not found in specified polling bags of 50 polling stations, the spokesperson said that the report did not find even a single ballot paper book that was not issued by the Election Commission or not allocated to the NA-122 constituency.

“This dispels the impression created by some segments that fake ballot papers were used in this constituency. However, very minor human errors were noted regarding dispatch of electoral rolls,” the spokesperson said.

To a question about the missing electoral rolls in some polling stations, the spokesperson said that photo-electoral roll was not the primary evidence for verifying the authenticity of votes polled. Explaining the procedure, he said that a voter affixes his fingerprint on counterfoil as well as on photo electoral roll at the time of issuance of ballot paper.

The primary source of fingerprint verification is through counterfoil and even if photo electoral roll is missing, the authenticity of votes polled can be examined through counterfoils. He said NADRA already has a copy of electoral roll in any case as it prepared them under the directions of the Election Commission.

The spokesperson said NADRA verification exercise was carried out in compliance with the order and terms of references provided by the respective election tribunals and the report is meant for the judge only, who will make a judgment on the basis of the report and/or all other evidences available to him.

NADRA also requested all political parties, media persons and other stakeholders to not to draw any inference on their own and should exercise caution as matter is sub-judice.
