Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Thursday announced a protest demonstration outside the Parliament building in Islamabad on May 12, demanding payment of outstanding electricity dues from the federal government.
Speaking during a session of the provincial assembly, he said that the MPAs would stage a protest demonstration in front of the National Assembly for seeking Rs 146 billion outstanding dues that fall under the head of electricity profit.
The chief minister said that the province had a potential of producing 5,000 MW of electricity. However, the federal government was reluctant in launching these power generation projects, he added.
He demanded the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to pay off the profit, which he claimed was the due right of the KP. “There are no differences between the KP and the federal government … we are only protesting to get our right,” he said.
Khattak claimed that Islamabad has itself turned the Pak-China Economic Corridor into a controversial project. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had promised to address the mentioned issues, but he was nowhere to be found for the last three months, he added.
The chief minister also demanded announcement of NFC Award before the 2015-16 national budget.
