Memon warns K-Electric over outages for pumping stations

Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government (LG) Sharjeel Inam Memon has warned the power company K-Electric for load-shedding at pumping stations which, he says, are likely to worsening the water crisis in Karachi.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sharjeel Memon stated that the government would take legal action against the power company as the loadshedding disturbed the supply of water to millions of consumers and it may also disturb the law and order situation in the city.

He said the loadshedding on pumping stations was an act of contempt of court and against the law and the government also reserved the right to take action against the K-Electric.

Meanwhile, the minister also warned the tankers mafia for overcharging the price of water and directed the authorities to take action against the mafia. He also appealed to the people to complain on phone numbers 02199203442-99245138-99245139-99245140 and 111-115-972 for overcharging.

The minister said that action would be taken within 24 hours against the complaints and directed the MD KWSB, and chief engineers to take strict action against the owners of the tanker if found overcharging. He advised the people to collect must the receipt from the owners of the tanker.

The LG minister also advised the people to note the name of tanker driver and hydrant number and inform the complaint centre setup at commissioner’s office and MD KWSB office. He said the directives had been issued to all six deputy commissioners to take action against the tanker mafia for overcharging the price. He said the price of tanker of 1000 gallons water was Rs 1000, Rs 1300 of 2000 gallons, Rs 1800 of 3000 gallons and Rs 2800 for 5000 gallons water.
