A special ceremony is being held to commemorate International Firefighters’ Day at Jinnah Convention Centre today.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal would be the chief guest on the occasion and it will be participated in by CDA board members, officers and fire fighters from the Emergency Disaster Management Directorate, rescue workers and the staff of CARES – the Emergency Ambulance Service.
On this occasion, physical demonstrations would be exhibited to show how to extinguish the fire, along with which a rescue drill would be conducted to rescue the injured stranded in high rise buildings. Special trained sniper dogs would also demonstrate how to search for people under the debris. In addition to the above, a smartly dressed contingent of firefighters will present a guard of honour to the chairman CDA and March Past.
In this regard, to finalise the arrangements to commemorate the International Firefighters’ Day, a meeting was held which was presided over by Member (Environment) and attended by the officers and officials of the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate and other concerned officers.
This ceremony will be held at 4:30 PM at Jinnah Convention Centre. At this occasion, a five second silence will be observed to pay tribute to those firefighters who sacrificed their lives to save the lives of other people.
Apart from this, a fire and rescue mock drill will be held, and the firefighters along with their firefighting rescue equipments and latest fire tenders and vehicles would march in the city on a designated route to create awareness about the importance of this day amongst the citizens. A 68 meter modern snorkel, fire tenders and emergency ambulance services will also participate in this march.
This flag march consisting of the latest fire vehicles equipped with life safety devices would end at the Fire Bridge Headquarters after marching through different areas.
Besides this, the citizens would be informed about the safety measures and techniques to deal with natural calamities.
This ceremony will also be participated in by the officers of the National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA), Civil Defense, CDA officers of other government department and citizens of Islamabad.
