In order to assure the supply of quality meat to the general public, the Punjab Government has sought applications from all over the Punjab for licensing meat sellers.
This appreciative move by the Department Of Livestock And Dairy Development Punjab shall prohibit the selling of pressure meat as well as the slaughter of sick animals not appropriate for human consumption.
The applicants shall have to submit all their personal details along with those of the shop kept for selling meat. It is equally applicable to the slaughterhouses as well, all over the province.
The licensing of shops has been made mandatory for all the butchers and is a guarantee for the preservation of their business rights.
A helpline has also been established by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab for the identification of those selling “Haraam” pressurised meat or the meat obtained from sick animals.
The Punjab government has accepted the allegation of sale of dead meat of halal animals as well as donkey meat at different restaurants and shops of the province, and had vowed to control such practices during the debate in Punjab Assembly.
