PPP has protected labour rights: Qaim

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Friday different facilities to the workers on social and economic fronts had been provided and steps were also being taken to give them social protection.

Shah said the PPP government announced a labour policy in 2010 and all sacked workers were restored, and services of three million workers regularised along with 135 per cent increment in salary.

He said with the help of Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme, 12 per cent shares of 84 government institutions were distributed among workers. The chief minister said death grant for workers had increased from Rs 2 million to Rs 5 million, marriage grant from Rs 5 million to Rs 1 million. Workers’ children’s scholarship was raised and other benefits were given to the workers.

He said the PPP would work to protection labour rights under Zardari’s leadership with the ideology of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. Shah said on the World Labour Day they pay tribute to the martyrs of May 1 who sacrificed their lives for labour rights.
