  • AAWAZ, Mishermayl come up with GSB campaign’s third song ‘Mehnat Kash’ for Labour Day

The joint collaboration of AAWAZ accountability program and Mishermayl Productions, Gao Suno Badlo’s musical campaign released their third musical video ‘Mehnat Kash’ for International Labour Day.

According to the producers, the video song celebrates the labour movement in Pakistan with particular focus on women workers and their issues. It showcases how labourers work hard but are not given due reward of their work.

“In fact, their sweat and painstaking efforts mostly go unnoticed by people. They face insults in place of praise, humiliation in place of dignity and hunger in place of excellence,” the brains behind the song contend.

The song has been composed by Ali Aftab Saeed and Saad Sultan, produced by Saad Sultan, sung by Rizwan Anwar and Zainab Fatima, lyrics are by Shakeel, video has been directed by Farhan Adeel while it has been produced by Madiha Gul.

“For most of us, May 1 is a day off and that is how we spend International Labour Day. Gao Suno Badlo’s 3rd song raises a voice for all the Mehnat Kash of Pakistan and highlight s the half pay, half credit and half respect that every member of the working class faces in this country,” says a release issued by the song producers.

“Women workers face twice the hardships faced by male. Because they work equally hard, yet also need to strive to survive and fight the constraints in a patriarchal society like Pakistan,” says Ali Aftab Saeed, the project head of GSB and the composer of all the campaign’s songs including Mehnat Kash.

“As the best examples come from nature, bees and ants are known for their laborious hard work day in day out. Which is used as a symbolic relevance for working class that works for the master and but is hardly accredited for their untiring efforts,” adds Ali.

This song has an awakening tone to it as well. As it later goes on:

No more of this extortion, loudly must your voice be raised

Build your future, let your handiwork amaze

A full day’s work, a full day’s pay

Let the investor no longer deny your praise
