As many as six people including a professor were killed and two others injured in different incidents of violence on Wednesday.
A university professor, Syed Waheedur Rehman, 30, son of Syed Iman, was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Dastagir area.
According to sources, Dr Waheedur Rehman, an Assistant Professor in Mass Communication Department, University of Karachi, resident of Federal B Area, Lateef Square, was shot dead by the unknown gunmen in Dastagir area when he left his residence.
The police sources said Rehman received one bullet in his head and another in his shoulder and died on the spot. A security advisor at the Karachi University confirmed that Rehman was a member of faculty at the university’s Mass Communication department. He also served as the media advisor of KU Vice Chancellor. His body was shifted Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, an unknown man, aged about 35, was gunned down by unidentified gunmen near Awami Colony in Korangi Town. The body was brought to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for an autopsy.
Yet in another incident, a man, Fahad, 30, son of Hanif, resident of Korangi Town, was shot dead by unidentified armed men near Khuwaja Ghareeb Nawaz area in Korangi Town. The body was shifted to JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
Separately, two persons, Amir, 30, and Asif, 28, were shot dead by unknown gunmen in City Railway Colony. Both the deceased were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
An unknown person, aged about 45, was gunned down by unidentified armed men near Caltex Patrol Pump in Old Sabzi Mandi area of University Road. The body was shifted to JPMC for an autopsy.
A woman, Taj Begham, 25, wife of Naimatullah was shot and injured by unidentified gunmen near Gulshan-e-Ghazi in Baldia area. She was brought to JPMC for treatment. A man, Amir, 35, son of Asghar Ali, was shot and injured by unidentified armed men in Orangi Town. He was brought to ASH for treatment.
