Scores of students yet to get textbooks

As much as 20 to 50 per cent textbooks have been found short supplied by the Sindh Text Book Board (STBB) in Larkan due to which the new academic year has not so far kicked of which was to start from April.

These textbooks include English, Sindhi, Islamiyat, Mathematics and Arabic for sixth class, Sindhi of seventh class and total course of eighth, ninth and tenth classes which is estimated to be short supplied by 50 per cent of the list that was sent to STBB by the education department of Larkana.

Due to non-receipt of text books, as many as 57,000 students of sixth to 10th classes are extremely worried as their education is suffering seriously and their teachers are sitting idle.

Syed Abid Shah of the education department told reporters on Tuesday that 80 per cent books of their actual requirement have been sent by the STBB due to which shortage is being faced in Sindh province including Larkana district. He said he had already talked to STBB deputy director and informed him about the situation who said that a short list be sent to him for supply of books and added that they would send the requisite list after receipt of comprehensive information from RSU. Shah confessed that due to non-receipt of total required books education of the students is suffering badly.

Meanwhile, villagers of Chooharpur, located in the limits of Mahotta police station, have complained that no textbooks have so far been given to their kids who are studying in classes 1 to 5 in government boys and girls schools of the village due to which their children have refused to go to their schools.

They said their sons and daughters were already reluctant to study but non-supply of free books or delay will force them to stay away from education. They demanded that book be supplied to them without loss of time.
