The Sindh Assembly was the site of commotion and uproar once again on Tuesday as opposition lawmakers protested during an address by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
The assembly session was first marred by a lack of quorum in the morning, but after lawmakers arrived at the House, the noise made one’s own voice incomprehensible.
The protest continued through the chief minister’s address, with Qaim Ali Shah responding by calling the protestors ‘landlords’ who did not want to listen to what ‘the poor man’ has to say. “I have been a member of national and provincial assembly for 40 years now. There are some rules of Parliament which should be respected. Do not teach us the rules. We have made these rules ourselves,” said the chief minister.
The chief minister claimed that the federal government had imported sub-standard wheat, and that his government had doubled the price of wheat this year for benefit of farmers. But the ruckus in the House rendered the address by the Leader of the House incomprehensible.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s Nusrat Sahar Abbasi got into an argument with Speaker Siraj Durrani as he reprimanded the legislator for causing a commotion in the House and disobeying his ruling. The speaker also complained that he had earlier spoken about the assembly’s security but lawmakers had turned it into a joke.
RANGERS DEPLOYED OUTSIDE SINDH ASSEMBLY
Rangers personnel on Tuesday have been deployed outside the Sindh Assembly following the threats.
Earlier, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani had said that the assembly was vulnerable to unfortunate incident. He had informed the Rangers Director General (DG) and Sindh Inspector General (IG). The Rangers DG had assured provision of security to the assembly.
The checking at the entrance of the assembly has been tightened by the police while Rangers personnel have also been deployed. Durrani said he called for more security on April 27 and today security forces have been deployed without any delay and he is thankful to the law enforcement agencies.
