The emergency department of the Allied Hospitals has become a bane for patients with serious ailments as senior doctors remained off duty after mid night.
Sources said that junior doctors, especially house officers, perform night duty at the emergency department and the junior doctors and house officers just experiment on the patients and call it treatment.
Recently, a patient was brought to the hospital’s emergency department and a junior doctor discharged him after initial treatment declaring the patient fit. The patient was rushed back home but his health soon deteriorated. While the family was taking the patient back to the hospital but he expired, which prompted a strong protest by the family members.
The hospital administration has formed a committee to probe the negligence of the doctor on duty to fix responsibility but the case has been swept under the rug since then.
Patients and their attendants have appealed to the health authorities and the chief minister to look into the matter and ensure placing senior doctors at the emergency department.
