Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) will not let the government get away with its ‘draconian policies.’

A resolve to this effect was expressed by the party’s London-based leader Altaf Hussain Sunday night.

“We will always take exception to what is wrong on the government’s part,” Hussain told a cheering crowd of followers gathered to celebrate the party’s thumping success in NA 246 (Karachi III) constituency by-election.

Drawing the audience’s attention toward the perils of prejudice, Hussain called it a scourge that could consume the whole country if left unrestrained.

“The fire of prejudice, if it continues to be fanned by the powers that be, can, God forbid, reduce Pakistan to ashes one of these days,” the MQM leader feared.

Picking apart those who, in his opinion, were trying the MQM through the media, Hussain said that the electronic media should refrain from running a biased smear campaign against his party.

“Before passing their judgments while hosting talk-shows, anchorpersons – as well as their guests – should first set the record straight by giving those ‘ugly ground realities’ a closer look. Analyses should be objective and not subjective,” Hussain said.

Pointing up the brazen display of firearms and unrestrained celebratory shooting by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters after winning the Cantonment Board elections, the MQM head honcho questioned the authorities as to why the army was not sent to seize those guns.

“We won a national assembly seat but not a single round was fired during our three-day long celebrations anywhere,” Hussain said.

He also warned the MQM office bearers against doing anything that could bring a bad name to the party.

“Anyone who is found guilty of breaching the code of conduct should be asked to tender their resignation. There is no place for such rogue elements in the MQM,” the party head said directing the leadership to show no leniency to anyone in this regard.

On an emotional note, Hussain, who believes that his party leadership in Pakistan is not living up to his expectations, pressed his followers to heed his advice lest they end up losing him one day.

“I am advising you to never let the MQM become a self-serving party,” said he adding, “The MQM needs ‘men of deeds’ and not ‘show manning’ broken reeds.”
