The crackdown on fake and ghost employees is under way in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation run hospitals across the city and over 200 ghost employees have been identified during the physical verification process so far, said Senior Director Health & Medical Services Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Dr Salma Kausar on Monday.
Dr Kausar said the physical verification of employees has been successfully continuing across the city in all KMC-run hospitals, dispensaries and maternity homes. She informed that over 200 ghost employees have been identified so far during the verification procedure and action against these employees has already started.
Around 173 hospitals, dispensaries and maternity homes are being run across the city under the supervision of the KMC health department, she explained. She said action against ghost employees has started on the directives of Provincial Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon.
She informed that physical verification of employees in Homeopathic Hospital, Gazdarabad Hospital, Sarfraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital and other hospitals running under the Medical & Health Services Department was carried out. Apart from the 200 ghost employees discovered, it was also found that around 200 employees are doing two jobs, simultaneously, in various KMC departments, she explained.
She informed that physical verification of fake and ghost employees in KMC runs hospitals in District South has started at the Civic Centre. She said verification of medical staff working in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases will be conducted soon.
She further said that ghost employees were unacceptable in the government healthcare sector and action against such employees will continue despite all odds. She said that the crackdown on ghost employees in Malir and other districts will be carried out soon.
