Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Sindh police to investigate the assassination of Sabeen Mahmud and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
The prime minister, who is in United Kingdom on a visit, asked concerned authorities to investigate the incident and submit him a report, said a statement issued from the PM media office.
Unknown gunmen shot and killed Sabeen Mahmud, Director of The Second Floor (T2F), in Karachi on Friday evening. The gun attack took place in Defence Phase 2 area of the city. According to police, Sabeen Mahmud was attacked on her way to home while her mother was also wounded
Meanwhile, the additional inspector general (AIG) while taking notice of Sabeen Mahmood’s assassination made an investigation team. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Dr Jameel has been designated to supervise the probe process whereas Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South, SSP investigation South, SDP and SHP Defence have also been included in the team.
The SSP South said that Sabeen had been receiving threats. He said her phone call record would be checked in order to get to the bottom of this horrific murder. It is worth mentioning here that Sabeen had been active for human rights especially the missing persons of Balochistan. Meantime, Sabeen’s post mortem was conducted. According to police, the bullet that hit her neck proved fatal for her. Police said she sustained two bullets at her chest and one each at neck and face.
