Director General (DG) Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar said Friday that the satisfactory conclusion of by-elections in Karachi’s NA-246 proves that the paramilitary force is not a threat to any political party.

Credit should be given to the Rangers and police forces for the peaceful by-election in NA-246, said Maj-Gen Akbar as he visited FB industrial area.

The DG Rangers said that the paramilitary force had not ordered a pillion riding ban in Karachi on the day of the by-election in the city’s NA-246 constituency.

We only appealed to citizens to carry ID cards, he said, adding that copies of national identity cards would also be acceptable.

He said that any proof of bad attitude or use of obscene language by Rangers personnel should be brought to forward so that action can be taken against them.

Akbar said that investigation has been completed into the killing of a political worker in Azizabad, adding that no worker of any political party had been killed by a bullet fired by Rangers.

He said that dozens of criminals had been arrested from Lyari, and that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) never objected to the Lyari operation.
