The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers clashed in Karimabad area of Karachi on Thursday.
As the initial unofficial results of NA-246 by-poll arrived, the MQM workers took to roads in large number and raised slogans in their party’s favour. But situation got strained when MQM workers pelted stones at PTI office, tore PTI’s posters and set their flags on fire. They also raised slogans against PTI.
Workers present in the PTI office were trapped and the law-enforcement agencies seemed unable to control the situation. MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari arrived at the scene immediately after getting the information of the incident and tried to control the workers.
Condemning the incident, PTI candidate from NA-246 Imran Ismail said when the MQM had already won the election why such incidents were taking place.
“MQM workers’ behaviour is extremely regretted”, he said. He told he had contacted Sindh Ishratul Ibad, Sindh Rangers and other law-enforcing agencies and informed them about the situation.
