The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday decided to take Pakistan Army’s support in conducting local government (LG) elections in cantonment boards across Pakistan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ECP said that army personnel would be deployed at all polling stations on polling day.
Under the Cantonment Local Government (Election) Rules, 2015 framed under the Cantonments Act, 1924, the LG polls are scheduled to take place at 42 cantonment boards across the country this Saturday. A total of two million registered voters will exercise their right to elect representatives for their respective local governments.
