Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued contempt of court notice to principal secretary of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif in the matter of appointment of senior bureaucrat Aslam Chaudhry as commercial counsellor.
The court had directed government on November 27, 2014 to appoint Aslam Chaudhry as the commercial counsellor. The additional secretary raised an objection when the summary in this regard was sent to him. The court again issued the order that the petitioner be appointed commercial counsellor within 10 days.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi took up the case for hearing Wednesday.
The court while expressing annoyance over non-induction of Aslam Chaudhry as commercial counsellor despite courts’ orders remarked, “It seems as if the PM is not aware of what is going on in Prime Minister Secretariat.”
The court issued contempt of court notice to principal secretary of PM ordered him to appear in person on the next hearing before it.
Aslam Chaudhry, bureaucrat of grade-19 had applied for the post of commercial counsellor in 2013 but he was not appointed on this post even after he had qualified for this office. Therefore, he had moved IHC against his non-induction.
