Allama Muhammad Iqbal was not only a true follower of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but also a visionary poet who gave the Muslims of subcontinent an ideology which can set Pakistan on the path of its destiny.
These views were expressed by speakers at a moot organised by the Aiwan-e-Iqbal and Iqbal Academy to commemorate the death anniversary of Poet of the East, Allama Iqbal. The event was presided over by Mujeebur Rehman Shami while the speakers included Aiwan-e-Iqbal Chairman and Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami, Hafiz Akif Saeed, Auriya Maqbool Jan, Sajjad Mir, Dr Saleem Mazhar and Ahmed Javaid.
Addressing the gathering, Mujeebur Rehman Shami said that Allama Iqbal was gifted Rs 100 when he read his poem Shikwa at a moot of the Anjuman Himayat-e-Islam in 1911. He said that even though 77 years have passed since Iqbal’s demise and Pakistan has also come into being, yet a lot is yet to be achieved according to Iqbal’s teaching.
Taking the stage, Arif Nizami said that the government and political parties should take practical steps to implement Iqbal’s teachings. He urged the government to organise events at the official level to inculcate Iqbal’s teachings in the masses.
“It is the need of the hour to form our narratives in accordance with the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal. The root cause of our problems is that there is a difference between our words and actions, which must be eliminated,” he said.
Addressing the audience, Hafiz Akif Saeed said that despite his intellect, Iqbal was a humble and modest man. “Iqbal was not just a poet, he was a visionary. It’s unfortunate that we have only thought of Iqbal as a poet by disregarding his services to the Muslim Ummah,” he said.
