Iqbal and Muslims

I just finished reading your editorial on Iqbal and Muslims. The suggestion that Allama and Jinnah would have differences about social contract of the new country Pakistan is devoid of historical facts. Allama wrote almost daily a letter to Jinnah for up to two years before his death in 1937. These letters are an indication of complete political alignment between these two founding fathers of the country. It is unfortunate that Jinnah’s responses to Allama are not available in any collective form while Allama’s letters are well preserved.

Jinnah’s speech of August 11th should be taken holistically along with his other speeches made from independence until his death. All these speeches make it clear that the model presented by Jinnah in his 11th August speech took inspiration from the Charter of Medina.

I hope this response will find space in your newspaper. It is an important historic question to build a stronger nation. Any doubts about divisions between the founding fathers or idea of Pakistan could have negative consequences.

  1. Allama Iqbal did not gave the idea of Pakistan which we are teaching in schools since 1971.He gave the idea of separate Muslim state in India within or without the British Empire, not for a separate country for Indian Muslims.
    Allama Iqbal’s Allahabad Address:-
“I would like to see the Punjab,Sindh,NWFP and Balochistan amalgamated into a single STATE,self-government,within or without the British Empire.Consolidated formation of North-West Indian Muslim state appears to me the final destiny of Muslims,at least of North-West India.”
So how you can declare that Allama Iqbal gave the idea for Pakistan?

  2. There is already lot of confusion in the people's mind over the word states in the lahore resolution. Let us not muddy the waters any more. Allama Iqbal clearly envisioned a country for Muslims in the areas where Muslims were in majority. the two nations theory remains a historical fact , on the basis of which demand for a separate Muslim state was made.

Pakistan is a reality, and its incumbent upon us to make it progressive and prosperous state.

  3. Did any one read Allamah Iqbal saying " toom to Syed bhee, ho, Mirza bhee ho, Afghan bhee ho, yeh to butaao kiyah toom Musalmaan bhee ho? So the question we all need to ask ourselves is " Are we Muslims"? If we are Muslims then how is it that we have failed to achieve an Islamic State?
When there were just over 300 Muslims in whole world they had no problem in creating an Islamic State. Why? Islamic State is of the people by the people. Was there any King, Ruler, Dictator then? No none whatsoever. Those Muslims, true Muslims created and managed Islamic State themselves so they did not need any King, Ruler or Dictator. For a True Muslim Allah is the Ruler. Thus those true Muslims became winners. Winners of hearts and minds. We are in millions today and yet no Islamic State? Why? We are not true Muslims. How many of us have the habits of winning hearts and minds of the people through our every day deeds? Hardly any. True? How can one know if we are Muslims or not? Justice will be a commonly found practice among Muslims. Thus Muslims societies will be haven for peace. Can we find justice anywhere in the world? This is the acid test of knowing if there are Muslim societies anywhere or not.
