Visit of Afghan Chief of General Staff, General Sher Muhammad Karimi promoted the need for close cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan to root out terrorism, experts said on Sunday.
In an interview, analyst Col Tallat Masood said that trust deficit between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been narrowing. He termed this visit very significant and positive development and said that it would boost military to military relations.
He remarked that relations of Islamabad and Kabul are improving in every sector. He said that Pakistan is conducting military operation in North Waziristan while efforts are under way to bring peace in Afghanistan.
The top officials in Pakistan and Afghanistan claimed that both sides are cooperating in war against terrorism. Defence analyst Brig Mehmood Shah said that North Waziristan operation has weakened terrorists and most of them fled to Afghanistan. He said that militants want to demonstrate their strength before holding talks on table for reconciliation process.
According to political analyst Dr Khadim Hussain last year Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to adopt joint mechanism to secure border, share intelligence and not allow its soil to be used against each other. Analysts said that there are still trust deficit between Pakistan and Afghanistan security and intelligence agencies.
This will remain a question, if its a good omen or bad… it is Afghan's who them self need to earn confidence of Pakistan, by expelling anti Pakistan forces from its soil.
