KARACHI:
Pakistan has arrested 48 Indian fishermen for violating the country’s water frontiers, according to local media sources.
Pakistan’s Maritime Security Agency (MSA) has arrested 48 Indian fishermen and captured their eight boats for illegal entry in Pakistani waters, the agency’s sources said.
India and Pakistan routinely arrest fishermen on charges of illegally entering in national waters as the maritime boundaries between the two countries were poorly defined and many fishing boats lack the technology to be certain of their precise location.
Many fishermen languish in jail for months even after completing their prison terms, according to sources.
Governments of both countries have from time to time released these fishermen from their jails as a goodwill gesture.
