Maj Gen Akbar says all no-go areas in financial hub of country eliminated, ‘shackles of fear’ broken

Asserting that there are no longer any no-go areas in Karachi, Director General Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar on Thursday claimed the crime-torn coastal metropolis had finally started breaking free from the shackles of ‘fear’.“The people are with us. They want peace. Even those living in Azizabad want law and order to prevail,” Akbar told reporters while standing in front of Muttahida Qaumi Movement headquarters ‘Nine Zero.’

In Azizabad, Maj-Gen Akbar and other senior officials walked up to MQM leader Altaf Hussain’s residence where they were welcomed warmly by the Nine-Zero staff. Making the most of the occasion, Maj-Gen Akbar shook hands with the MQM workers guarding the main entrance of the building.

To a question, he said that paramilitary troops were cracking down only on the criminal elements in Karachi. “Gone are the days of fear and the terror. Did you feel any while walking around the MQM main office? Things are changing now,” he said, adding,” All the Karachiites are our brothers. The good ones need not to worry about anything, however, the bad ones will not be spared, no matter what.”

The top security officials also visited Lyari, Manghopir, Kati Pahari, SITE, etc.

Moving forward, Maj-Gen Akbar said that Lyari’s future was free of gangsters. “Lyari will be purged of all kinds of violent elements with the cooperation of local residents,” he said.
