The Sindh High Court Thursday upheld the conviction of a doctor who had killed and buried his fiancée in his clinic at Lyari.
A division bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, dismissed the criminal appeal of Dr Muhammad Saleem through which he challenged his conviction in the murder case.
On April 04, 2006, a trial court had found the appellant guilty of murdering his fiancée and sentenced him to death. Subsequently, the appellant filed an appeal in SHC against his conviction.
Earlier, the bench had reserved its verdict on the appeal after the counsel for appellant and deputy prosecutor general had concluded their arguments.
The verdict ruled: “The trial court had rightly come to the conclusion that the prosecution has proved its case against the appellant beyond any reasonable doubt and death penalty has been awarded to the appellant.”
The complainant, Muhammad Younus, deceased’s brother, had registered a complaint with TPX police station, stating that her sister Shakeela was engaged to her maternal cousin, Dr Saleem, who was running his clinic at Mohammadi Colony, Lyari.
Dr Saleem had developed close intimacy with another woman and wanted to marry her, and therefore, he murdered Shakeela. After murdering her, he said, accused buried her dead body in his clinic which was recovered by the police.
