Rs 12b shortfall highlights Metro Bus Project corruption

In a shocking revelation, a major corruption scandal has surfaced in the ongoing Metro Bus project (MBP) in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to media reports, the authorities had allocated Rs 44.21 billion budget for the metro bus project. However, 72 per cent construction work on the project has been completed and 28 per cent is remaining but the allocated amount of Rs 44.21 billion has been spent.

Now the authorities will have to allocate additional funds of Rs 12 billion to complete the remaining work on the project.

The Punjab government has failed to achieve its third consecutive deadline for the Metro Bus Project (MBP) in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

According to details, the first deadline was stated to be December 25, 2014 when the project was inaugurated. The second deadline was January 31, 2015, which also lapsed. A third deadline i.e. February 15, 2015, was then established, which also came and went.
