Siraj condemns attack on JI’s NA-246 rally

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq on Saturday condemned the attack on JI electoral rally in Karachi.

In a statement released after the clash between Jamaat-e-Islami and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area, Siraj said the attack on electoral rally was unfortunate and the culprits must be arrested. He maintained that an attack on a peaceful political rally was an act of terrorism which should be immediately stopped.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) local leader Faisal Wada while commenting on the incident said that PTI’s claim of MQM vandalism came true and the party should dissociate itself from its militant wing.

He questioned if the attackers were not MQM workers, the party shall explain as to who were these attackers. The NA-246 constituency of Karachi will witness a by-poll on April 23 as the seat fell vacant after Nabil Gabol who was elected on the ticket of MQM in the 2013 general elections resigned from his seat after developing differences with the party.

A number of candidates are participating in the election with the most notable candidates being MQM’s Kunwar Naveed Jamil, PTI’s Imran Ismail and JI’s Rashid Nasim. The by-polls are due to be held on April 23, 2015.
