750 RO plants in Tharparkar soon: Qaim

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the government will install 750 reverse osmosis (RO) plants in district Tharparkar which will be functional by June this year. In this regards funds have been already released. After functioning of these plants, 80 per cent issues regarding water availability will be solved.

Addressing on the second day of Sindh Health & Nutrition Festival Tharparkar on Thursday, he said the health department should have mobile medical units equipped with doctors and medicine and those should visit village to village, and provide health facilities at doors of people. For this purpose, the health department should purchase 4×4 vehicles while doctors should be appointed if needed by just having them interviewed.

Shah appreciated the health department for organising such mega event and said this was a sigh of relief for people of Tharparkar who were suffering various issues for many years. A two million gallon capacity Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant is already installed in Mithi while by this June, 750 RO plants will be installed in Tharparkar, for which amount is released to a company. After installation of these plants, 80 per cent water shortage issue will be addressed and burden of waterborne illnesses will be lessened, he added.

The chief minister said that water from RO plant Mithi will be supplied to far areas like Islamkot through pipelines. The government is also trying to make more arrangements for water availability in Tharparkar for agriculture purpose so they could grow their crops. Employment opportunities will also be created for local people, he told.

Qaim directed the health department officials to depute mobile medical teams equipped with doctors and medicines to provide healthcare facilities to people at their doors. “Basic Health Units (BHUs) should be made fully functional so ailing children should not fall prey of long distance to health facility. The health department should purchase 4×4 vehicles to access far flung areas and appoint more doctors if needed by only having them interviewed, he asked.

He deplored working of lady heath workers and said that there are considerable numbers of LHWs but they don’t go in the field on regular basis. The LHWs should perform their duties honestly and with dedication. Government will solve their issues and will provide facilities to them, he assured.
