The government has withdrawn its review petition from the Supreme Court (SC) in Asghar Khan case with reference to alleged formation of Islami Jamhori Ittehad (IJI) by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

As a three-member SC bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, took up the case for hearing Wednesday, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Rana Waqar sought plea’s withdrawal, citing the sitting government’s “lack of interest” in it. The court later disposed of the petition.

Gen (r) Asad Durrani pleaded the court for time, saying that he had talked to three lawyers but none was ready to contest his case.

Granting a month’s time to engage a lawyer, the court adjourned the hearing.
